Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Tina Drake
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and enjoyed spending time with loved ones! Wellington High School has a busy January ahead of us, and I cannot wait for it to begin!
The second quarter, and first semester, ends on January 18, 2019. We will be having semester exams all day on January 17th (up to four exams, lunch and study time) and until noon on January 18th(up to three exams). Once exams are done on January 18th, students will be able to leave if a permission slip is turned in allowing them to do so. Permission slips will be sent home in the next week or so.
The second semester will begin on January 22nd. Some schedules may be altered a bit from the first semester, and this is okay, if a scheduled is changed, classes and lunches just may be taken at a different time during the day.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are on January 30, 2019 from 3:25-7 pm. No appointment is needed to meet with a teacher. A more detailed schedule on the various parent meetings will be coming out shortly, I am just finalizing some details before sending this information out.
Beginning second semester, we will be having our Olweus Classroom meetings once a month. Some of the topics we will be discussing are: rumors, respecting differences and eliminating stereotypes. These are all topics that the students have suggested we discuss.
Also beginning second semester, we will be doing an EOC prep/intervention period three Thursday’s a month (the fourth Thursday will be our Olweus meetings). All students in grades 9-11 will be in groups working on EOC and/or ACT/SAT prep. Seniors will be meeting as a large group to listen to speakers.
Coping with Stress sessions, led by our Applewood School-based Counselor, will be offered to all freshmen again this year. These sessions will happen in our Computer Science classes and will begin January 23, 2019 and will last for eight consecutive weeks.
Please do not ever hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns about your son or daughter. I want everyone to know that I will do whatever I can to try and help you and your child; my door is always open or I am just a phone call away!
Check out the link for the monthly newsletter with a list of upcoming events and the winter athletic schedules. Please let me know if you have any questions about any of these items.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your child’s life and helping them be successful in school and beyond. I am extremely blessed and honored to be the principal at Wellington High School.
