SUMMER EBT known as “SUN BUCKS”

Beginning in the summer 2024, Ohio has taken the opportunity to participate in a new federal permanent program called the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (Summer EBT), also known as “Sun Bucks”.

This program helps to bridge the summertime hunger gap by providing cash grocery benefits to households with children who qualify for free or reduced-price meals. The Summer EBT program provides children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Each eligible child will receive a one-time $120 benefit for the summer. If you currently have an EBT card, the funds will be automatically added to the existing card. If your family does not currently receive SNAP benefits, an EBT card will be mailed to your home. For questions about benefits or EBT cards, please visit https://sebt.ohio.gov/

All free or reduced-price meal certified students who have access to school meals qualify for this benefit. You DO NOT need to complete another application. **Only those who are not on the program and feel they may qualify for meal assistance should complete an application.

Deadline to apply is JUNE 1st by 3:00p.m. (for any NEW applicants). To confirm whether your child is currently receiving free or reduced-price meals, contact the Nutrition Services Department, ahelton@wellingtonvillageschools.org, 440-647-7415.

If you have confirmed that your child qualifies for free or reduced price meals, but have not received an EBT card after July 1, 2024 please contact the department of Jobs and Family Services, 1-866-386-3071. Please note, not all payments may not be issued at the same time, even for children in the same family.

Reminder: Free and Reduced-Price Meal applications can be submitted anytime during the school year. Meal applications can be submitted online via
www.payschoolscentral.com or using a paper copy requested from any district office building.

Summer Meal Notification:

All children, ages 1-18, are eligible to receive free meals during the summer months at participating program sites. Individuals ages 19-21, who have been identified as having mental or physical disabilities and are following Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) through their current enrollment in educational programs also are eligible for free summer meals.

It's easy to participate and no sign up is required. Simply call 1-866-3-HUNGRY (1-866-348-6479) or visit http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Student-Supports/Food-and-Nutrition/Summer-Food-Service-Program for meal times and locations.

Yearly Meal Applications:

An updated application must be completed every school year. If your child qualified for free or reduced-priced meals for the 2023-2024 school year, the approved status will roll over for the first 30 operating days of the 2024-2025 school year.

To ensure no interruption of meal benefits, be sure to submit applications for next school year before October 9, 2024. If an updated application is not received, then the meal status will change to full pay, and you will be responsible for any charges accrued.

If your family qualifies for free or reduced-price meals through a direct certification
letter, you must sign and return the letter in order for instructional fees to be waived.

Meal applications will become available online www.payschoolscentral.com  and paper copies are available in the board office and the main office of each building.
