The Jason Hartman Memorial Scholarship was created in 2002 by the Wellington Wrestling Federation to honor the contribution Jason Hartman ’92 made to the Wellington High School wrestling program. Jason was a two-time state champion for Wellington in 1990 and 1992. His other wrestling accomplishments included being a state qualifier three times, four-time Lorain County Conference champion, National High School All American, Lorain County Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee, MIT Hall of Fame, Ohio Cadet National All American, two-year member of the Ohio Junior National Freestyle and Roman-Greco teams, and a member of the Tour De Monde team to the Soviet Union. Jason continued his wrestling career at Hofstra University in New York on a wrestling scholarship. In April of 1995 he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. On May 7, 1997, he lost his final match. Jason’s courage, spirit, love of life, and drive to succeed live on through this scholarship. The Jason Hartman Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a high school senior wrestler by the Wellington Wrestling Federation and coaching staff. The first scholarship was awarded in 2003.
