One of the earliest and largest contributions to the Wellington Endowment was a generous gift of $100,000 by George J. Babitt ’34. Mr. Babitt was one of the owners and founders of Sectional Tool & Die in Wellington and wished to do something for the community and for students who completed their education in the Wellington school system.
In 1989, the first Babitt Family Scholarship was awarded. It is a $1,000 scholarship, potentially renewable up to four years. Preference is given to students attending Lorain County Community College and those who have a demonstrated history of employment prior to graduation. Requests for renewals must be made in writing and accompanied by the student’s most recent grade transcript, major area of study, and the address of the bursar’s office where the award should be sent. Requests must be sent to the attention of the Endowment Coordinator, 20701 Hawley Rd., Wellington, OH 44090. Copies must be received no later than May 1st.
