Curriculum

Once a Duke, always a Duke.

This is a K-12 Strategy Spotlight.

At Wellington, our vision is to create a dynamic, supportive learning environment where every student develops adaptability and positive self-worth, and gains the skills to grow socially, emotionally, and academically. By building strong connections to both school and community, we empower our students to advocate for themselves and to design their own futures as productive, engaged, resilient, and empathetic members of society.

To live out this vision, we provide a curriculum that is current, challenging, and meaningful for all learners. Every student deserves access to highly effective teachers and rich learning experiences. We also recognize that teachers need time, resources, and flexibility to help students reach true mastery.

To keep our programs strong, our district regularly reviews each subject and content area, ensuring that:

  • Instruction reflects the latest research and best practices
  • State and national standards are fully integrated
  • Skills and content build smoothly from one grade to the next

As part of this review, we examine how students demonstrate learning, identify areas for improvement, and update instructional materials as needed. We also explore how technology can enhance engagement and make learning more interactive.

A full review typically spans at least one school year. When the process is complete, the Board of Education reviews and approves any recommended curriculum updates.

If you have questions about Wellington’s curriculum or the review process, we welcome your input—because our curriculum, like our vision, is built around the success of every Duke.

Learning Standards

Our K-12 curriculum is aligned to Ohio’s Learning Standards. These standards explain the knowledge and skills Ohio students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 need to achieve.

Ohio’s Learning Standards emphasize skills crucial to students’ success not only in school but also in college, careers and life — such as critical thinking and problem solving.

Based on Ohio's Learning Standards, WEVSD has made thoughtful and intentional decisions to focus on particular content identified in classes, allowing teachers to realistically teach for mastery in the time allotted.
